About the College/Department
The College of Health, Psychology and Social Care has a clear vision – to make a REAL difference to the lives of individuals, families and communities within our region. To be the University of choice for our Health and Social Care partners’ education needs across the region; and to provide an excellent student experience, delivered by highly credible and well qualified lecturers and supported by skilled and experienced technical support.
As part of the College of Health, Psychology and Social Care technical team we support some of the University of Derby's most popular degrees at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Our technical team are actively involved in research and are working hard to advance teaching quality in healthcare and the human sciences. The technical team are an integral part of the delivery of medical programmes and make a significant impact on student outcomes.
About the role
As a technician in Clinical Skills and Simulation you will be pivotal in bringing healthcare training to life for the students of the College. The principal duty will be the provision and setup of practical equipment for the delivery of clinical skills training. In addition, technicians support and maintain sophisticated medical simulation manikins and equipment for delivering clinical simulation. The role covers all aspects of nursing, midwifery, diagnostic imaging, occupational therapy, counselling and social care.
There is an element of flexibility to the working pattern to suit both business need and family friendly policies of the university in a role where TOIL can be accumulated and used.
The University is a signee of the National Technical commitment and as such is participating in the development and implementation of a clear career structure for technical staff to include training, recognition and pathways to advancement. Technicians have been supported to engage in further study and are supported to develop and specialise in their roles.
The anticipated interview date is 15th November 2024.
About You
To be successful, you should ideally either already have a degree or evidence of continuous professional development either in a technical role in a higher education environment or in a medical clinical area.
The role is varied and you will have very good practical skills, well developed IT skills and a flexible and approachable attitude. Typically, technicians are self starters and are equally happy working either alone or as part of a small team.
Whilst medical or clinical knowledge is preferred this knowledge can be taught to suitable candidates and practical skills and experience of technical support in other fields is equally valued.
The department as a whole is very innovative in the creation and development of equipment, skills which contribute to the simulation collective will be viewed positively.
