Leeds, United Kingdom University of Leeds Full time

Are you an early career researcher looking for your first challenge? Do you have a background in healthcare research?  Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

This role is to help to deliver a national NIHR-funded cluster randomised controlled trial of using volunteer PR-buddies to improve uptake and completion of pulmonary rehabilitation (PR). Working in a multidisciplinary team the role will involve: liaising with and visiting pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) services; and all stages of data collection, data entry and qualitative interviews and analysis. See more details on the trial website: Improving completion of Pulmonary Rehabilitation with PR-buddies (improvetrial.co.uk)

This role will be based at the University of Leeds and requires willingness and availability to travel across the north of England and Midlands to undertake site visits and data collection, with capacity for occasional meetings in London. There will be some flexibility to plan your working schedule with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. Travel to sites could require some longer working days which can be balanced by working some shorter days. We encourage people living outside Leeds in the north of England to apply if they meet the criteria for the role.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a research assistant working on the IMPROVE trial your main duties will include:

  • Working both independently and as part of a larger multidisciplinary team of researchers and stakeholders based in Leeds and London
  • Supporting research activities, including visiting trial sites to support and monitor the delivery of the intervention
  • Data collection, data entry and data management and contributing to research results and outputs
  • Assisting with conducting qualitative data collection including individual interviews, focus groups and qualitative data analysis
  • Contributing to scientific papers for publication resulting from the trial and reports to the funder
  • Contributing to the research culture of the School, where appropriate

These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list. Other reasonable duties may be required consistent with the grade of the post.
