AXA XL UK & Lloyd's are embarking on an exciting journey to create a new team focused on the efficient and technically smart underwriting of follow business. In this newly established role, as the Actuary for our portfolio follow team, you will be responsible for taking a leading role in developing, establishing and running the portfolio management process to effectively monitor the smart underwritten follow portfolio, and effect changes to the underwriting of it as needed. The role will be a major contributor in developing the strategic and operational plan for future enhancements for portfolio optimization, portfolio oversight and processes. An exciting and creative role that will suit those with an innovative and entrepreneurial mind set.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Lead the development of portfolio and pricing tools to effectively build the diversified portfolio structure to deliver sustainable profit over the market cycle, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal and regulatory standards
  • Opportunity Evaluation: evaluate potential business opportunities from a pricing perspective, employing advanced actuarial techniques and methodologies
  • In collaboration with Innovation, Data and Analytics explore and implement, new and 'smart' methodologies to optimize the follow portfolio and algorithms/models to support pre-bind risk selection
  • Collaborate with the existing product pricing teams to ensure consistency in approach and evaluation across the organisation
  • Broker platform integration: programming risk appetite parameters into broker platforms, ensuring seamless integration and alignment with organisational objectives
  • Business Planning: in close collaboration with the Head of Portfolio Underwriting, development of the AXA XL business plan each year.

We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

  • Actuarial Experience: Expected to have relevant experience within the non-life insurance Industry, with a significant focus on pricing, ideally across a multitude of products. A track record which demonstrates development of leadership capabilities as well as the ability to ensure timely delivery under pressure is absolutely essential.
  • Established analytical skills
  • Planning & Organisation: An ability to manage multiple conflicting tasks and outputs. Able to plan long term deliverables and ensure tasks are planned and completed accordingly and that any delays or complications are communicated early and resolved appropriately.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration and presentation skills. Must have the ability to communicate even negative or difficult messages in a constructive and effective manner at all levels.
  • Business Partnering: Able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the actuarial process, as well as translate actuarial output to stakeholders.
  • Strategic Thinking and Tactical Implementation: Ability to invent, design and build solutions.
  • Actuarial expertise across various insurance classes and portfolio business to provide strategic insights and recommendations
  • A 'hands on' actuary who will need to take on a breadth of responsibilities as the team scales
  • Ability to challenge the status quo, and build suitable case for change when introducing new methodologies to the company
