Ethos are seeking a GIS Technician/Consultant to join our busy and expanding team. We have opportunities ranging from Graduate to Senior and would welcome applications at all levels. If you are a graduate or early in your career, we will provide training and support to help progress your skills and career. Ethos is a Bath based company and work on projects across the South of England and South Wales. We have a team of twenty five ecologists, environmental consultants and support staff and pride ourselves on a friendly and supportive work environment.

Our work focuses on undertaking ecology surveys and assessments to support our clients in meeting their project requirements. Much of this is efficiently done through the use of ESRI software packages and smart apps, as well as a number of background workflows which help to streamline our systems.

Depending on your current experience, the role will include basic GIS mapping, creating GIS data for species, habitats and sites, updating GIS data to respond to project changes, creating maps for reports, presentation and other outputs, and contributing to the development of the companies GIS capabilities.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a close-knit team with a very supportive work ethic and enjoy regular team building and social events. Ethos currently works a '9 day fortnight' with team members having every other Friday off work. We also offer flexible work arrangements with a combination of office and home based work, as well as opportunities for part time roles.

Key roles

  • Managing existing GIS workflows to ensure consistent function.
  • Collecting and verifying geographical data.
  • Looking for opportunities to improve current GIS workflows.
  • Undertaking spatial analysis of geographical data.
  • Compiling geographical information to support survey and other project work.
  • Providing technical support across the GIS software packages where required.

GIS Consultant Requirements

  • Proven work experience as a GIS technician\consultant.
  • Experience in using ESRI software packages essential.
  • Experience using Python and/or SQL essential.
  • Experience using excel macros desirable.
  • Self-driven and motivated to solve problems and enhance current systems.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to travel when required.
  • strong written and oral communication skills
  • IT skills, including the use and manipulation of complex databases and spreadsheets
  • Numerical skills with the ability to analyse data and statistics
  • The ability to translate client requirements into working solutions
  • Familiarity with Ordnance Survey mapping and digitising techniques
  • Attention to detail.
  • Teamworking skills and the ability to work independently.

Graduate requirements
