Stipendiary Lectureship in Philosophy

Merton College proposes to appoint a fixed-term Stipendiary Lecturer in Philosophy for the period 1 October 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter, until 30 September 2025.

The main duties of the post will be: to teach undergraduates studying degrees with Philosophy for an average of five hours per week in full term, to share in the organisational responsibility and administration of undergraduate degrees involving Philosophy, to act as Director of Studies for a number of students studying Philosophy, to provide study skills and pastoral support, and to take part in the undergraduate admissions exercise.

The successful candidate will be able to teach first-year Moral Philosophy and the Final Honour School Ethics paper for undergraduates studying Philosophy. They will have completed, or be about to complete, a doctorate in Philosophy in a topic relevant to this teaching range. The ability to provide effective tutorial teaching to high-achieving undergraduates is essential.
