Local Authority is currently seeking a Principal Development Officer to join their team on a contract basis. As the UK Shared Prosperity Fund programme lead for the council, you will play a crucial role in economic development work, both within the City Council and in partnership with other authorities and stakeholders.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
  • Leading from the Economic Development team on themes such as social value in procurement and community wealth-building.
  • Taking a leading role in economic development work on behalf of the City Council and participating in various officer working groups.
  • Deputising or carrying out tasks for the economic development team leader, as required.

    In this position, you will be responsible for project and programme coordination, managing internal and external governance, and overseeing delivery according to requirements. Additionally, you will engage with stakeholders, share your expertise in project working group settings, and draft reports. Convening meetings and managing notes and actions arising will also be part of your role.
    The ideal candidate will have:
    • Significant experience in delivering economic development programmes in a local authority context.
    • The ability to translate strategies into deliverable plans, and comfortable operating at both strategic and tactical/operational levels.
    • Experience and confidence in liaising between numerous people and bodies, gathering information effectively, communicating clearly, and engaging with external individuals and groups.
    • The ability to work constructively and proactively with internal and external stakeholders in a multi-disciplinary and partnership environment.
    • While professional qualifications are not necessary, it would be desirable to have a qualification in something related to economic development or project management.
