Lecturer in Classics and Ancient History

The role

The Department of Classics and Ancient History is seeking to appoint a 1.0 FTE Lecturer (Lecturer C, pathway 1) in Classics and Ancient History on an open-ended contract. The successful candidate should have an emerging track record of research expertise in the area of cultural history (broadly conceived) and be able to demonstrate clear plans for research outputs, grant capture, impact and engagement. Special consideration will be given to those who expand our existing teaching and research specialisms. This may include but by no means be limited to e.g. cultures beyond Greece and Rome; comparative antiquities; material or visual culture; archaeology.

What will you be doing?

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach the equivalent of around three undergraduate units in Classics and Ancient History each year, particularly contributing to the ancient history curriculum.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and design new units
  • Supervise and mark undergraduate dissertation.
  • Take on administrative roles and play an active part in administrative processes, including Open Days and Post-Offer Visitor Days.
  • Act as personal tutor.
  • Conduct research in your chosen field.
  • Develop and enact plans for grant capture and Impact.

You should apply if

  • You have completed a PhD in Classics, Classical Studies, Ancient History, or a related field.
  • You have a track record or clear plans for research publication, grant capture and Impact and engagement in your field.
  • You have a track record in excellent teaching in the field at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.
