Marylebone, United Kingdom The St Marylebone CE School Full time

The St Marylebone CE School welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds, races, cultures, faiths and genders.   The School actively promotes diversity and inclusion across its community and our students come from a wide range of backgrounds: 40% of our students speak English as an additional language; 59% of our students come from backgrounds other than white British.

We would like to recruit a Teacher of Geography to teach all key stages, to join us in September 2024. We require a versatile, capable and enthusiastic team player to join a successful department and show their commitment to the excellent range of field trips offered to students.

Applications are welcome from experienced teachers or ECTs. We offer an excellent ECT induction programme.

About the department

We would like to recruit a teacher of Geography to join our vibrant, collaborative and dynamic team. The department has a very strong academic record both at GCSE and A Level. Of the 94 GCSE entries in 2023, 29% of the cohort gained 8-9 and 96% achieved a 4 or above. At A Level, out of a cohort of 27 students, 37% gained A*-A and 75% gained A*-B.

Field trips are a great asset to the teaching in the department, with at least one offered annually in each year group, two of these being residential. These include the Lake District at A Level and Italy as part of a Humanities Faculty wide trip, in Year 9. Students frequently explore their local environment by conducting fieldwork in and around Marylebone.

Students are given the opportunity to take part in a number of extra-curricular events which include workshops facilitated by UrbanPlan and Westminster City Council, A Level to Key Stage 3 peer mentoring, KS3 Geography Society, Geography Booster to support GCSE students, Higher Education preparation, Royal Geographical Society lecture trips, as well as numerous opportunities for discussion and debate.

The department is developing links with how Geography links to careers and this is something we hope to develop even further in the coming years. All members of the department are expected to contribute to the extra-curricular offering and provide revision and extension opportunities for their classes. There is a strong ethos of collaborative teaching and learning, particularly at KS4 and KS5.
