This role is to undertake a range of duties in support of organisational governance and performance to ensure that statutory and constitutional compliance is achieved.

Key Activities/Elements  

Give advice and guidance on the development of Policy and Procedure and work with policy owners to ensure Policies are up to date and in line with APP and Legislation and escalate non-compliance as appropriate. 

Act as a point of contact for queries relating to policies within the organisation, providing advice and guidance where required.    

Responsibility for creating and updating governance, policy and risk templates.   

Responsible for keeping policy database and risk register up to date.    

Give advice and guidance on organisational Risk Policies ensuring these are recorded, monitored and mitigated against and reported to the appropriate Force Governance Board.   

To be the conduit for publication and briefings between the National Police Chiefs’ Council and the organisation, ensuring, where necessary, national guidance and development is disseminated with the organisation to ensure it is incorporated into the activities within Gwent Police and future planning.   

Ensuring that the Force Boards are coordinated and operate in line with the Governance and Performance Framework and Force Planning Cycle, to improve the effective and efficient operation of strategic decision and consultation meetings.    

Request, coordinate and quality assure reports for Chief Officer Team in accordance with the Governance Structure.   

To collate and circulate information as directed towards meeting the needs of the force and in support of decision-making. This includes timely and accurate agendas, policies and risks relating to each specific meeting. Represent the team at meetings taking an active role in highlighting issues relating to governance, policy and risk where there are gaps or areas for concern.   

To complete detailed highlight reports from each meeting and board within the stipulated timeframes to ensure the appropriate flow of information is fed through the governance structure, taking action on the decisions arising from Board meetings wherever appropriate and if necessary, refer items for action to appropriate officers.  

To undertake an annual review of Terms of References for all Boards and meetings, ensuring they remain accurate or amending where necessary prior to presenting to the necessary board/meeting for approval.
