Job overview

Applications are invited for the role of Clinical Fellow (ST3-5/ST6+) in Haematology (Myeloma) at Addenbrooke’s Hospital to commence as soon as possible until at least February 2025 with the possibility of extension after this to a full year post.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our established clinical team and participate in the development of our Haemato-Oncology Services.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our myeloma and autologous transplant team.

This would be an ideal post for a post-CCT Haematologist or a Haematology specialty Trainee wishing to develop a specialist interest in all aspects of myeloma including autologous stem cell transplantation.

Experience will be available in several aspects including:

participation at regional myeloma MDTs, outpatient myeloma clinics and chemotherapy prescribing, clinical trial enrolment and monitoring, and autologous bone marrow transplantation including inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory care settings

With the potential commissioning of CAR-T therapy for myeloma patients by the NHS in 2024-5, the individual would also be involved in the service development and clinical delivery of CAR-T therapy specifically for these patients.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be responsible for the management of patients with myeloma and other paraprotein-related disorders. They will also be responsible for the whole pathway from referral to recovery for transplant-eligible myeloma patients.

There will be opportunities to undertake audit and analysis of outcomes and other data for publication.

In order to be considered, it is desirable to have MRCP or equivalent qualification (FRCPath is also desirable).

You must have completed at least three years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis), at least one of which will be in a specialty training programme in a Haematology, Oncology or Internal Medicine or the equivalent experience (a minimum of 18 months Haematology experience in non-training posts will also be considered).

Please note that this post does not not carry Postgraduate Dean’s approval or training recognition.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at point of application.

Working for your organisation

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Applications from job seekers who require skilled worker sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

It is a requirement for skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, to present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is an Equal Opportunities Employer.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Within the Trust there is an expanding Myeloma Service and Cambridge University Hospitals are commissioned to function as the regional BMT Centre, taking referrals for autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation for myeloma from several district general hospitals around the region.

Following the selection of Cambridge University Hospitals for commissioning as an NHS CAR T-Cell Centre and the proposed enlargement of the Cambridge Cellular Therapy Laboratory into new purpose-built facilities to support the delivery of several new cellular therapy trials and commissioned therapies the service is also primed to offer cellular therapy and other clinical trials to myeloma patients.

The Department of Haematology at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers the full range of clinical (levels 1-4) and laboratory Haematology.  It acts as a Tertiary Referral Centre for complex cases and serves as routine service for local patients.

Strong links exist between the Clinical Service, the academic department and the Haemato-Oncology Diagnostic Service. The roles will also require collaboration with regional hospital colleagues.

Please refer to the Job description and Person specification attached for further details on the main responsibilities and duties for this post.
