Main duties of the job

To provide cover for colleagues as appropriate and in accordance with local Trust arrangements and Trust Policy.

To observe the Trust's agreed policies and procedures

To take responsibility for your own health and safety complying with any safe working arrangements, policies and procedures which are in place.

To accept a duty to other staff and patients to ensure that any hazards are reported and managed appropriately.

To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of patients to be able to contact you when necessary

This site has 350 beds and houses the majority of the Trust's acute services including Emergency Department services, Inpatient, Diagnostic and Pathology departments, Consultant-Led Maternity and Special Care Baby Unit, Main Theatres and Day Surgery Theatres together with an Intensive Care Unit and Coronary Care Unit. Outpatient appointments are offered at Warwick and Stratford Hospitals. Warwick Hospital houses the Gynaecology inpatient services. Last financial year, there were around 3200 deliveries.

Job responsibilities

To support the inpatient service in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Warwick Hospital

Outpatient workload: Duties involve antenatal/gynaecology clinics and elective operating theatre lists

The Labour Ward has 7 delivery rooms one of which is a water birth room and one of which is a high risk room and six observation beds. There are 2 obstetric theatres and a bereavement room within the ward area.

The Bluebell Birth Centre is the new alongside midwife-led unit offering four top of the range birthing rooms, with birthing pools available in all of them.

SWAN WARD

Swan Ward is a 27 bedded antenatal/postnatal ward.

SCBU

The Labour ward is adjacent to a level 1 SCBU and has 11 cots. Neonatal intensive care is provided only as part of resuscitation and stabilization pending transfer to a regional centre for neonates under 32 weeks gestation if required. The tertiary Neonatal Unit for the Central Newborn Network of the West Midlands is University Hospital, Coventry and Leicester Royal Infirmary. The new Trent Perinatal network and Central Newborn Network Neonatal Transport service has been up and running since April 2010.
