As part of the Market Intelligence team within the Retail Directorate, you'll collaborate closely with the Consumer Intelligence team to establish a sound evidence base for policy making. You'll support the external publication of retail market competition and consumer intelligence indicators and contribute to internal updates and insights for senior managers and colleagues across Ofgem. 

Your responsibilities will include producing written deliverables such as reports and briefings, cooperating on unplanned data requests, and providing analytical input for monitoring and policy purposes. You'll engage with suppliers and industry stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate data provision, and share actionable insights with senior managers, policy, and compliance colleagues. Additionally, you'll engage with other government departments and consumer bodies on the state of the retail energy market and customer protection developments.

Key Responsibilities and Outputs

Essential Criteria

Analytical Skills 

Good quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, and the ability to analyse complex concepts, and work with uncertainty, to solve problems to present clear timely information to senior colleagues. (Lead criteria) 

Research Experience 

Able to undertake research when required for policy or other ad-hoc pieces of work. 

Teamwork 

Experience in building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders that creates space for constructive, open, and transparent engagement. 

Communication 

Effective written and verbal communication skills to communicate issues to non-expert audiences and internal/external stakeholders at a range of levels. 

Excel proficiency 

Technical proficiency in Excel including accurately working with large datasets and producing informative visualisation of analysis (e.g. charts).
