Job Description

AtkinsRéalis, is looking for an Associate Hydraulic Engineer to join the Design and Advanced Technology (D&AT) Practice, to work on projects based principally in our Bristo office but with opportunities to work at our own and our Client locations elsewhere in the UK and overseas.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a team player to showcase their expertise on major projects and be at the forefront of developing design methodologies.

The team undertakes hydraulic analysis and design of water/wastewater treatment plants and transfer pipelines for a variety of UK and International Clients. The team also provide specialist hydraulic advice and input into other industry sectors.

The ideal candidate would be a well-rounded Chartered Engineer, technically competent in all areas of hydraulic design, with exemplary communication skills, and who has experience leading teams and delivering projects. This role would support projects in multiple sectors including transportation, energy, and defence.
The candidate must be willing to participate in the Practice and foster collaboration with colleagues. Key Responsibilities:

As an Associate Hydraulic Engineer in the D&AT practice the successful candidate would have the following responsibilities:
Undertake, and technically lead teams in Hydraulic Engineering designs including Water /Wastewater treatment plant design, pipeline design, surge analysis, CFD and physical modellingCompetently lead teams to deliver schemes on a large range of projects, from individual large-scale 'Mega-projects' through to multiple projects within frameworks.Prepare briefs, scopes of work, and input into bid proposals.Successfully manage time and budgets to key project milestones and programmes.Work closely with teams in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.Adhere to quality assurance standards in design.Develop and train staff in hydraulic design.Develop and input into digital design tools.
Key Requirements (necessary):
Chartered Engineer with strong experience track record.Recent, demonstrable, proficiency in designing in at least one of the sub-fields of Hydraulic Engineering with an excellent knowledge of the applicable codes and guidance of that sub-field (examples of sub-fields: Surge analysis, CFD, Treatment plant design)Experience in design delivery, including coordinating with other disciplines in multidisciplinary design.Experience leading a design team.Experience in business development and successful competitive tendering.Engineer with sound problem-solving skills, and a pragmatic, practical mind.Take accountability and responsibility for work carried out by the individual or the team.Work well with and form relationships with others, including the client team, other disciplines, and contractors at all levels (junior - senior) inside and outside the business.Be self-motivated to produce high-quality deliverables.Experience working with and negotiating with key project stakeholders including regulatory, statutory, and local bodies.Produce designs following CDM regulations.Strong communication skills, independent working, presenting, and influencing skills.
Key Requirements (desirable):
Sound knowledge across a range of other engineering disciplines such as MEICA, Process, Civil. external works design, including utilities, paved and unpaved surfaces, earthworks, access and accessibility, construction logistics, and familiarity with current UK design standards and working practices.Proficiency in designing within appropriate digital analysis packages, following local and national guidance. eg HADES, Varisim, WANDA.Experience of Design & Build projects.Robust understanding of contracts (principally NEC forms) and their administration.Robust experience in change management and QA processes.Industry reputation as an expert in the field of Hydraulic design.Have experience mentoring junior staff.Use and development of digital design tools and techniques.Working with colleagues/team members who are geographically remote
