South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust are seeking two dynamic, committed, visionary Locum Consultant Medical Oncologists to support Acute Oncology, Urology, and Cancer of the Unknown Primary Oncology for a 24-month period. However, other subspecialty roles will be considered.

The post is based at South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust currently holds a service level agreement with the Oncology department at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust to facilitate visiting Oncology consultants. The principal duties of the post will provide Acute oncology services and will include 5.5 PA's of acute oncology totalling 10PAs.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will work in site specific local MDTs at SWFT and contribute to the cancer management of patients including providing consultant oncologist support to the nurse-led Acute Oncology service as well as mentorship.

The Aylesford Unit serves the whole of South Warwickshire covering a population of approximately 536,000. We are part of the West Midlands Clinical Network population approximately 6.3 million.

Outpatients, chemotherapy and other day case patients are managed in the Aylesford Unit and Rigby Unit (opening July 2017). The Aylesford Units activity for oncology patient 2016-2017 was over 1000 first attendances and 9,500 follow up patients. The unit is nurse-led and nurse led clinics are held every day for chemotherapy reviews, consent and pre chemotherapy education and emergency clinics as part of acute oncology.

There is an established team of seven visiting Clinical Oncologists and one visiting Medical Oncologist.

The department benefits from use of the Electronic Oncology management system (MOSAIQ) which facilitates e records, e scheduling and e prescribing across Coventry and Warwickshire.

Main Purpose of the Post

1. The appointee will take ongoing responsibility for patients under his/her care.

2. The appointee will provide a consultation service and an advisory and guidance service to other clinical colleagues in other specialties within the Trust and Primary Care.

3. The appointee will develop close collaborative links with clinicians working in his/her specialty and work to develop services provided to patients in these areas to the highest standards including the development of treatment protocols and guidelines.

4. The appointee will take part in the departmental audit programme as well as participating in multidisciplinary audit relating to their area of clinical interest.

5. The appointee will participate in regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate and educational activities.

6. The appointee will participate in the Trust Performance and Annual review scheme and be responsible for ensuring that they support the principles of revalidation by the General Medical Council.

7. The appointee will be committed to, and involved in, clinical governance, risk management and clinical audit this will include the development and maintenance of appropriate systems and practices to ensure continued safe clinical practice

8. To provide supervision and mentorship to junior medical workforce

9. The appointee will participate in Departmental Error Reviews and will support the Departmental and Trust clinical risk management policies and procedures.

10. Share responsibility for data protection arising out of the use of computers.

11. Comply with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures.

Full and specialist registration (and a license to practice) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)

Postgraduate research qualification, MD or PhD or MSc. MRCP or evidence of equivalent qualification
