Research Nurse or Clinical Research Practitioner

Manchester, United Kingdom Imperial College London Full time

About the role:

We are looking for a committed and motivated Research Nurse or Clinical Research Practitioner to join the Imperial College Addiction research team to undertake cutting edge clinical research in opioid addiction. You will work with the team to deliver the FORWARDS-2 trial (Facilitating Opiate Recovery: Withdrawal and Abstinence through Detoxification Support-2). FORWARDS-2 is a multi-centre, randomised, controlled trial evaluating whether baclofen can facilitate detoxification or dose reduction from methadone. It is a highly innovative trial aimed to address an immense unmet need in the management of opiate dependence. The trial is taking place in both NHS and non-NHS (third sector) community drug and alcohol services in the North West of England and London.

This post is based in Manchester. It will have an office location based at our partner recruitment site Change Grow Live, and the role will take place across local addiction services that are affiliated with the trial, so travelling between CGL and NHS sites will be a regular feature of this post.

What you would be doing:

You will be primarily responsible for recruitment, participant-facing activities and data collection at the local addiction services. This will involve the planning, co-ordinating and conduct of participant visits and trial-related procedures, in line with the research protocol, according to Good Clinical Practice. You will be the key point-of contact for client and staff queries at the Manchester sites. As a pro-active post holder you will build effective relationships with local Principal Investigators and their addiction service teams. All aspects of the role will be undertaken in collaboration with, and with support from, the trial management team and wider research group based at Imperial College London.

What we are looking for:

We are seeking a registered nurse with experience in a relevant area, or a Clinical Research Practitioner with equivalent training. Preferably you will have previous research experience, ideally with CTIMPs, but if not you should be interested in developing a career in research.

You will have one of a range of skills. You do not need to be qualified as a nurse, but should have relevant clinical and/or clinical research experience, and an interest in addiction. You may have good clinical experience but no or limited experience of clinical trials and wanting to develop your interest in such research. Or you may have extensive clinical trials experience from a governance/regulatory perspective but limited experience working in the clinic with participants and want to develop this.

It will be essential to have the following:

  • Able to prioritise and manage own work
  • Ability to work accurately to procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and keep comprehensive records.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

What we can offer you:

Add a few of bullet points about what opportunities the job will offer candidates. Is it a particular team/group, an exciting project etc? Are there any specific benefits to the role? We have included below some generic points that you can use or delete.

  • The chance to join an established and active addiction research team; one of the only groups in the UK conducting clinical trials in opioid use disorder
  • A chance to gain clinical trials experience within an experienced team that is associated with a UKCRC Registered Clinical Trials Unit
  • FORWARDS-2 is a highly innovative trial, conducted in NHS and in third sector (non-NHS) organisations, to address an immense unmet need in the management of opiate dependence
  • The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution
  • Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year)

Further Information

Interviews will be held on a rolling basis until the post is filled.
