About the role

As a Cyber Security - Detection and Prevention Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and/or implementing the cyber security defence tooling and platforms, either to prevent security incidents, or to enable a faster and more effective detection and response capability to them.

You will be required to analyse and gain insight from large datasets, focusing on correlation of detection and prevention alerts for opportunities for change, development and improvement within your area . Attention to detail, and an ability to spot trends, will be crucial to gaining insight into complex, often global questions.

The role may require analysis of issues and opportunities in a wide range of underlying technologies: you will work closely with other team members and teams to understand key concepts in these technologies and inform your analysis.

You will be responsible for

Responsible for developing and improving the cyber security defence tooling and platforms day-to-day for the Tesco Group, continually working to step change security capability to further enhance the protection and controls that we offer for our customers and colleagues across the UK, Europe and Asia.

You will be required to develop queries and enable robust prevention and detection of cyber threats against our business

You will design, develop and implement our rules and policies, and to interpret and use triaged threat intelligence in order to support the development of prevention and detection capability

Communication is key â working collaboratively with our software and systems engineering teams to support security throughout the business.

You will need

Key Skills and Experience

⢠An ability to develop queries and enable robust detection of threats

⢠Working knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems

⢠Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

⢠Understanding of modern attacker TTPs

⢠Translate threat intelligence into actionable detection

⢠Working knowledge in prevention and detection technologies

⢠A broad understanding of security concepts; an interest and passion for Cyber Security

⢠An analytical mindset; ability in problem solving and comfortable working on production systems at scale

⢠Command line experience and using/modifying basic scripts

 

Desirable Skills and Experience:

⢠Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, cloud security and cloud APIs a plus

⢠Knowledge of attacker tools and evasion techniques

⢠Working knowledge of at least one major programming language, including scripting languages like Python, PowerShell

 

Desirable Certifications

⢠One or more from:  CompTIA Security+, GIAC, CEH, SSCP. Where appropriate other industry relevant certifications will be considered.
