Social Worker

Stafford, United Kingdom Staffordshire County Council Full time

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work within the Family & Friends + SGO Team. These teams are looking to combine in order to enhance the support offered to our kinship carers across the county and ensure placement stability for children placed both with our Family & Friends carers and Special Guardians.

It is our commitment as a team to reduce the number of looked after children in our care by not only alleviating any barriers that may prevent a child from being able to remain in their family & friends’ network but also to a carer in progressing to a permanency route which best suits their family life, but most importantly is in a child’s best interest.

Your role as a Social Worker in the team will be to undertake assessments of connected carers to children in care, children at risk of becoming looked after and children in private arrangements or stable fostering placements who are looking to secure permanency via a Special Guardianship Order. Further, you will have the opportunity to strengthen your knowledge of the different legal orders and be encouraged to show creativity when developing SGO support plans making full use of the training and events our service offers.

In addition, you have the opportunity to supervise and support carers who have been temporarily approved as Foster Carers as well as support them to attend the Fostering Panel both prepared and within our policy timescales.

The teams are both stable and have the benefit of experienced staff who are both approachable and supportive. We are a county wide so you will be undertaking visits to connected carers in a range of areas as such home working is promoted. Main Responsibilities

3x 12 month Fixed Term Contract or Secondment

As an assessing social worker, you will:

Undertake Viability Assessments, Full Connected Persons Assessments and Special Guardianship Reports. You may also be required to provide supervision and support to temporarily / newly approved foster carers. You will prepare your applicants for Foster Panel and support them on the day with their attendance.  Providing duty cover on a rota basis.

As part of this dynamic service, you will be involved in Smarter Working practices in order to continuously strive for best practice, offering positive experiences for applicants whilst providing high quality reports.
