Statement TakerLocation: Crawley Sussex
Salary: 18.00 - 18.75 per hour (umbrella)
About the Role:
We are recruiting on behalf of the police for a Statement Taker.
This role would suit someone that has worked previously with the police or an experienced investigator that is familiar with writing Section 9 statements for court. You would be required to travel to visit members of the public for statement collection. The position involves handling various incidents, some of which may be distressing or challenging.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support investigating officers with statement taking and tasks such as seizing and collecting CCTV.
- Upload digital and documentary evidence to police IT and partner agency platforms for investigator review.
- Previous training and experience writing S9 Criminal Justice Act 1967 evidential statements for court submission is essential.
- Ability to work methodically and accurately, using your own initiative in a busy and pressurised environment.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise your workload.
- Strong communication skills for responding to correspondence and enquiries professionally.
- Experience working in a team.
- Background in quality assurance of documents and knowledge of data protection and GDPR guidelines for managing confidential information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft programs such as Word, Outlook, and Excel, and willingness to learn additional IT systems.
- Ability to produce clear, legible, and accurate statements.
- Experience completing evidential statements detailing activities related to evidence production.
- Willingness to attend court and account for actions undertaken to generate exhibits if required.
- Personal resilience to handle difficult or distressing witnesses.
- Full Driving Licence
