This is a post giving the appointee the opportunity to develop skills in using transvaginal ultrasound for the diagnosis and management of early pregnancy problems, acute gynaecology, gynaecological cancer and general gynaecological problems.

Specific Areas The appointee will work full time in the Early Pregnancy & Gynaecology Assessment Unit Princess Royal University Hospital under the direct supervision of Miss Magee and Miss Appiah.

Clinical Organisation or Key Relationships The 12 month post (subject to satisfactory review at three months) will be recruited .It is envisaged that the appointee will contribute to the development and delivery of aspects of these services depending upon their interests and experience.

Main duties of the job

Together with other colleagues to provide a service for patients. This includes all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the Care Group.

Shared responsibility with other colleagues for providing 24 hours, 7 days a week cover for the Unit on a rota basis. Responsible also for covering colleagues' periods of annual leave and short-term sickness.

Participation in Multi-disciplinary Meetings.

Contribution to audit and clinical governance programmes.

Responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group management team.

Contribute to the Care Group research interests in accordance with the Trust's R& D framework.

Contribute to the audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, clinical governance programs and learning from Deaths.

Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s).

Work in conjunction with clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced. This may include involvement in the appraisal process for peers and/or junior colleagues.

Be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene.

Job responsibilities

This is a post giving the appointee the opportunity to develop skills in using transvaginal ultrasound for the diagnosis and management of early pregnancy problems, acute gynaecology, gynaecological cancer and general gynaecological problems.

The post holder will be engaged in working in the Early Pregnancy and Gynaecology Assessment Unit and will be given full training in the use of transvaginal ultrasound in the diagnosis and management of gynaecological conditions. They will also have the opportunity to take part in research projects involving the use of ultrasound in the non-invasive assessment of gynaecological disorders. The post may involves provision of a morning weekend service in the Early Pregnancy Unit one weekend in three, subject to expansion of services. The successful candidate should have attained at least the competencies required by the end of ST2 year of obstetrics and gynaecology, part 1 MRCOG or equivalent and full GMC registration and have two years experience of working as a doctor in the UK.

You have a general duty of care for the health, safety and well-being of yourself, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.

You are required to observe the rules, policies, procedures and standards of Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations.

Qualifications
Essential

Registerable medical qualification. MRCOG Part 1 or Equivalent Full registration with GMC/GDC with License to Practice.

Desirable

Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD).

Experience
Essential

Experience in day to day organisation of gynaecology and maternity services in a busy Teaching Hospital Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams.

Desirable

Familiar with current structure of Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes.
