About this role

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic individual as an Assistant Head Teacher who can join our senior team as an Assistant Headteacher. The successful post holder would:

Be an excellent practitioner and someone who has good understanding of the pedagogy needed for the curriculum to be implemented successfullyDemonstrate a commitment to developing a culture of effective coaching to improve the quality of teaching and learningDemonstrate a commitment to improving student progress


Purpose

The Assistant Head Teacher will support the Acting Head Teacher and Deputy Headteacher in:

Providing professional leadership and management of the schoolLeading strategic development of the schoolImplementing strategies for school improvementEnsuring effective and efficient organisation and administration of the schoolCreating a stimulating, nurturing, happy, safe and productive learning environment that is engaging and fulfilling for all studentsEnsuring the curriculum is broad, balanced and underpinned by the trust principles of curriculum design

Main duties and responsibilities

The Assistant Head Teacher will support the Acting Head Teacher and Deputy Headteacher in:

Contribute to the development of the school in support of its vision and ethosDemonstrate the school’s values in everyday work and practiceSupport practice that promotes and sustains continuous improvement in the schoolSupport and promote robust systems for safeguarding, pastoral care and personalised learning are followed to ensure every child feels valued and is known and supported during their time at the schoolSupport members of the school community to create a positive and stimulating learning environment, making full use of their skills and talentsEnsure that learning is at the center of strategic planning and resource managementSupport management and development of all school resources to achieve the school’s aimsAssist with the evaluation of school performance and identification of priorities for continuous improvementWork with the Local Governing Body to promote and implement the strategic vision, values and ethos to students, staff, governors, parents and the wider community

Leading teaching and learning

The Assistant Head Teacher will support the Acting Head Teacher and Deputy Headteacher in:

Contribute to leading and managing teaching and learning to secure the highest possible and sustainable levels of progress and attainmentEnsure that the curriculum delivered:is based on excellence for allmeets statutory requirementsmeets the school’s and Trust’s education vision and principlesmeets the needs of all studentsis supported by teaching of the highest qualityEnsure a consistent and continuous school-wide focus on students’ achievement, using data and benchmarks to monitor progress in every student’s learningEnsure a culture and ethos of challenge and support where all students achieve success and become engaged in their learningEnsure strategies for inclusion, diversity and curriculum access are in place and embeddedImplement strategies that secure high standards of behaviour and attendanceMonitor and evaluate the curriculum for both quality and value for moneyEnsure students feel happy, safe, and supported, and have all barriers to their learning and progress addressed/removedMonitor, evaluate and review classroom practicePromote improvement strategies and provide inspiration and strategic leadership to the teaching team to ensure that the school delivers the highest standards of teaching and learningDemonstrate and articulate high expectations and set stretching targets for the whole school communityProvide strategic leadership of the use of assessment and data systems used in the school and ensure that on-going teacher assessments are secure and robust. 

Leading and managing staff

The Assistant Head Teacher will support the Acting Head Teacher and Deputy Headteacher in:

Ensure that organisational structure reflects the school’s values, and enables management processes to work effectivelyDevelop, implement and monitor clear, evidenced-based improvement plans and policies for the development of the school and its facilitiesEnsure that policies and practices take account of national and local circumstances and Anthem policies and initiativesRecruit, retain and deploy staff appropriatelyDemonstrate commitment to good worklife balance through modelling good practice and considering the impact of decisions on workload across the school workforceLead and motivate others and generate effective working relationships at all levelsMaximise the contribution of all staff to improve the quality of education provided and standards achievedEnsure staff performance is managed in line with school and Anthem performance management policies and proceduresEnsure access to effective induction, training and appropriate professional development opportunities

Financial, compliance and facilities management

The Assistant Head Teacher will support the Acting Head Teacher and Deputy Headteacher in:

Support the management of the school’s finances and resources to ensure maximum benefit for studentsSupport with the management of the school site, its buildings, equipment and groundsProvide inputs to development of the annual and projected yearly budgets for approval by AnthemAssist with setting appropriate priorities for expenditure and allocation of fundsEnsure that the site provides a positive and safe environment which promotes wellbeing and high achievement for everyone at the schoolEnsure effective financial administration and audit controlEnsure full compliance with Anthem policies and procedures, regulatory frameworks and statutory duties


These duties and responsibilities should be regarded as neither exhaustive nor exclusive as the post holder may be required to undertake other reasonably determined duties and responsibilities commensurate with the grading of the post.
