We have a great opportunity for a career minded individual to join our waste team as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician at Earlswood STW.

As the successful candidate your role will be ensure that all equipment at our sewage treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods.  You will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair electrical and mechanical plant equipment.

You will also be working in a multi-discipline team and will be responsible for carrying- out scheduled, unscheduled and emergency maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns.

What youâll be doing as the Mechanical and Electrical Technician
  • Investigate plant failures and carry out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process.
  • This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents.
  • You will be expected to provide technical advice, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
  • Examples of equipment that you will be working on will be motors, gearboxes, screw /chain conveyors & centrifuges, various pumps, and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable logic controllers, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling and dosing equipment.
  • Participate in a stand-by rota following the relevant training.
Base Location - Earlswood - Redhill - RH1 5HE.

38 hours per week Monday-Friday.7:30 am -3:36pm plus the inclusion onto a on standby rota for which you will receive additional Payment.

All PPE, Tools plus the provision of a Van when on duty and on call.

What you should bring to the role
  • You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems working in a âtrue multi-skilledâ capacity. Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 is crucial.
  • Ideally you will have been upskilled with a mechanical qualification to allow inspecting, maintaining, fault diagnosing, testing, installing, modifying or repairing mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
  • For individuals with mechanical or electrical experience only, we will look to develop the right people to dual skilled status.
  • Experience working on large industrial plant equipment including various pumps within the utilities industry would be beneficial.
  • Due to the nature of this role, domestic experience is not suitable.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial.
  • The work will require physical fitness; as you will work in confined spaces with successful completion of the appropriate training.
  • A valid driving licence is essential and all necessary equipment such as vehicles and tools are provided.
