Agile Working: Hybrid - this role can be performed from home more often than not.

We have an exciting development opportunity for a Human Resources Adviser to join our friendly HR team on a fixed term contract for 12 months.

The role will require you to deliver a professional HR Service within a policing environment with precision and passion, in which you will be supported, whilst working as part of a proactive and friendly HR team. You will provide clear, consistent and outcome focussed advice, guidance, support and coaching to managers on a comprehensive range of HR activities, in line with agreed policies and procedures, best practice, professional standards, and legal requirements.

We are looking for a highly motivated and hard-working individual to take on the role. You’ll be required to take on many tasks which will include (but are not limited to):

Provide HR advice and guidance to management within a designated service area on a range of HR activity including conditions of service, policies and procedures and employee relations to enable compliance, effectively manage and mitigate risk, and deliver positive outcomes that support Force objectives.

Provide and gain experience in HR advisory input into service area change projects, change management programmes and working groups. Develop the opportunity to work collaboratively with the Employee Relations Manager to implement organisational change and developments, including re-structures, redeployment, redundancy situations, in order to deliver outcomes in line with organisational aims and objectives.

Undertake HR Project work as required to further enhance the service offer.

Work proactively with service area management teams to support continuous improvement and compliance in the management and monitoring of attendance and performance.

Receive training to support the development and maintenance of a performance culture within the service area, by advising and guiding managers through relevant policies and procedures and monitoring the completion and quality of PDR’s/UPP’s.

Monitor attendance levels within services to ensure that short and long term absence is effectively and consistently managed through processes. Liaise with managers and OHU to negotiate and agree recuperative duties, restricted duties, and reasonable adjustments, attending case reviews as necessary.

Develop and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships with key stakeholders including operational managers, HR colleagues, unions and staff associations to deliver positive outcomes for individuals, services and the Force.

Establish professional credibility with managers to enable them to understand their people management responsibilities and to develop an understanding of the service area objectives and priorities to enable HR to offer a value added service with people at the centre.

Engage in and maintain personal and professional development, keep up to date with current employment practices and assess and interpret the impact of new legislation and conditions of service, providing advice on its implementation and application and sharing knowledge across the team to ensure the continuous development and improvement of the HR service offer.

Regularly contribute to the HR team/service as a whole, recommending improvements to systems, procedures and practice to improve efficiency in the department and ensure the credibility of HR’s role in the organisation.

Provide coaching and mentoring to managers on day to day staffing issues to enhance people management capability and effectiveness and improve employee relations
