Job Title: Head of Operations (New Manufacturing Facility)

Location: Sheffield (fully on-site role)

Salary: £70k+, car allowance and 12.5% Performance based bonus (Commensurate with skills and experience)

What you'll be doing:

Support delivery of the new production site in Sheffield, enabling the business to restart manufacturing of our products in the UK

Use best practice manufacturing operations knowledge to implement processes and systems for world-class manufacturing

Manager of managers of multiple, diverse teams of professionals with primarily operational responsibilities

Lead the development and delivery of the operating strategy, working in partnership with the business service teams and programme teams to ensure alignment and drive performance

Develop innovative solutions to very complex issues and acts as best practice/quality expert within and outside own discipline.

Set policy and ensures delivery within area of responsibility, linking with other parts of the organisation

Deploys resources, detailed planning and preparation of work packages

Meets stakeholder and customer requirements and delivers operational excellence

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Experience in manufacturing and production environments
  • Previous leadership experience in growing and developing teams in a new environment
  • Experience working in a multi-functional domain and ideally in high tech R&D environments
  • Proven stakeholder manager who can communicate across a large organisation
  • The ability to deliver strategy while ensuring continued operational delivery

Desirable:

  • Experience in high-rate production environments
  • Prior experience in setting up new manufacturing facilities/ production lines, lean manufacturing, Black Belt, Industry 4.0

Head of Operations (new Manufacturing Facility):

This role will be part of Weapon Systems UK which designs, builds, and supports artillery systems and naval guns used across the world. BAE Systems is restarting production of products including the M777 Howitzer to help meet growing demand. To do this, a brand-new manufacturing facility is being built in Sheffield, and your role will be to set up the facility, build the team, and help deliver production capacity for these complex systems.

This is a truly unique role within BAE Systems and provides you with the opportunity to use your best practice manufacturing knowledge to set up this brand-new facility. As well as the planned orders for existing platforms, Weapon Systems UK is also investing heavily in new R&D projects which will lead to growing demand for manufacturing and production in the Sheffield site.
