School Context
Devonshire House is a large co-educational prep school in Hampstead, North
London. We are in the process of an exciting period of positive change, intent on
offering an outstanding education in every sense for its pupils and their parents.
The school recently acquired a fifth building, giving more scope for outdoor play and
sport, as well as doubling specialist teaching room capacity. The values of the school are
unashamedly traditional, whilst its outlook on teaching pedagogy is very much modern.

Summary of the role
Devonshire House is looking for a part-time Latin and Classics Teacher.
The School is committed to further developing Latin/Classics across the curriculum,
and the new Teacher will enjoy the opportunity to have an impact on students from Years 5 to 8.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
KEY TASKS
· Teach Latin across KS2 & KS3.
· Create ambitious short, medium and long term goals for the Latin.
department based on teaching and learning, staff development and assessment.
· Provide professional guidance to staff in the department to secure good teaching in
Latin through both written guidance and meetings.
· Know the strengths and weaknesses of staff within your department and offer
support where needed or seek guidance from the SLT.
· Assist with the performance management process for staff in your department by
completing formal and informal lesson observations, work scrutiny and planning
checks and moderating where appropriate and feeding this information to the
relevant SMT member/s.
· Advise on, contribute to, and lead professional development of staff across the
school.
· Reviewing and updating the whole school Latin curriculum. (Devonshire House runs a
two-yearly cycle of curriculum review.) When necessary, rewriting the detailed.
planning of the Upper School Latin Curriculum.
· Keeping in touch with the ISEB about the 13+ Latin curriculum, and London day
schools about their 13+ entry requirements and specifically any changes in topics or
areas to be covered.
· Holding regular Latin meetings with Head's of Year where curriculum, resources
and individual pupils are discussed. The minutes of these meetings should be kept
and a copy given to the Deputy Head Academic.
· Maintaining assessment records of all pupils and monitoring individual and general
progress.
· Lead clubs and trips.
· Adhere to the relevant Health and Safety Policies and produce risk assessments as
required and contribute to any relevant policies where required.
· Undertake any other reasonable requests made by your line manager.
Person Specification – Classroom Teacher
Qualifications, Education and Training
Essential:
· University degree (non-UK degrees require a statement of comparability from UK
NARIC)
· A recognised teaching qualification
Desirable:
· Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desirable
Knowledge and Experience
Essential:
· Knowledge of UK curriculum and syllabus
· Knowledge and teaching within KS2
· An excellent track record as a teacher
· Evidence and commitment to innovative teaching and application of pedagogical
strategies in the classroom
· Effective use of assessment data
· Confidence and understanding of safeguarding and child protection statutory
legislations and school protocols
· Experience in supporting pupils of all abilities to make excellent progress
Desirable criteria:
· Knowledge of curricular development
· The successful applicant will preferably have worked in an independent school.
