Job Title: Food Service Assistant
Location: Clydebank Campus, West College
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Length: 1 month - Term Time
Pay Rate: 12.81 per hour
Working Hours: Monday to Thursday 8am to 2.45pm with 30 minute unpaid lunch break and Friday, 8am to 1.30pm with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.
We will require the candidate to have a PVG check (working with Children) in place before starting work with WCS

Job Description:
To undertake a range of catering tasks with limited supervision by the Catering Co-ordinator; to ensure the Health and Safety at Work Act and Food Safety Legislation are adhered to; to assist in food preparation, finishing of food, transporting of food and service of food whilst maintaining high standards of hygiene and cleanliness; operating a point of sale and stock management system; to serve customers and to hold responsibility for cash handling.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Good understanding of Health and Safety at Work Act and Food Safety Legislation. Willingness to undertake training as directed.
  • Experience of working in a catering service.
  • Experience of working within a team.
  • Experience of safe working practices.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • Working practices comply with current legislation and protect the organisation from a legal perspective. E.g. ability to deal appropriately with visits from external organisations such as Environmental Health.
  • Ability to inform the product offering going forward.
  • Good preparation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to carry out manual handling duties.
  • Operation of cash register.
  • Responsibility for cash on campus. Including cash handling, the security of the cash and the banking.
  • Stock monitoring and recording.
  • Basic IT skills to support operation of point of sale and stock inventory system.
  • Ability to provide information to other college departments.
  • Good customer liaison skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Flexible approach to working.
  • Effective customer service skills.
  • Good communicator both verbally and written.
  • Able to meet physical and mental demands of working in busy catering service.
  • Ability to work flexible shift pattern if required.
  • Ability to work out of hours i.e. emergency response.
  • Willingness to work at other sites if operationally necessary.
