Post Title : Assistant SENDCO

Grade: Classroom teacher pay scale + TLR

Directly Responsible to: SENDCO

Direct responsibility for the leadership, management and organisation of our

Hub provision. The main purpose of the post is to complement the

professional work of teaching staff by providing alternative curriculum

provision for targeted students.

This role involves supporting disaffected and vulnerable students to maximise

their potential whilst at school. The successful applicant will lead the Hub and

will involve planning, preparation and delivery of a personalised Curriculum

for individuals and /or groups of key students.

The post will also undertake the monitoring, assessment, recording and

reporting on achievement, progress and development for students who attend

the Hub.

Responsible for the provision of a full learning experience and support for students.

Liaising with the School Lead (Headteacher), Senior Leadership Group, SENDCO, teachers and support staff, LA representatives, external agencies and parents.

MAIN (CORE) DUTIES

Key Tasks Support , Enhancement and Development of Learning

Establish rapport and respectful, trusting relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations. Deliver local and national learning strategies, e.g. literacy/ numeracy utilising all alternative opportunities to support extended development of students’ skills. Assess, develop and deliver resources to support the varying personal and social needs of the student. To develop the provision and use of various learning materials in a range of media, so as to enhance learning of targeted students. To liaise with curriculum areas about the relevance, standard and quality of learning resources in both areas and provide advice on suitability of learning techniques of targeted students, to colleagues. To organise and conduct induction programmes for students to the Hub, to encourage learning and good behaviour. To oversee the delivery of alternative curriculum pathways for the targeted students including offsite provision. To develop knowledge of, and competence in learning activities that support the development of the whole child i.e. Learning to Learn; SEAL (social, emotional aspects of learning); Life Skills; restorative justice etc. To track and monitor the progress and academic achievement during the students time in the Hub and their reintegration. To have a positive and significant impact on targeted students. To promote self-esteem and independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self-reliance. Ensure pupils’ safety, welfare and personal hygiene (Basic First aid to be included where appropriate).

Management and Leadership

To manage the Hub effectively so as to ensure a quality facility for targeted students. To promote the work of the Hub. To provide excellent support, supervision and care for all users of the Hub. Monitor and evaluate pupil responses to learning activities through a range of assessment and monitoring strategies against pre-determined learning objectives. Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required on student achievement, progress and other matters, ensuring availability of appropriate evidence. To liaise with the school’s SEND Teams about targeted students who may have ISP, be LAC or be on profile of additional SEN, including supporting and contribution to multi –agency working for specific students. To arrange parental interviews/reviews as appropriate; to provide regular feedback to parents/carers on targeted students. To inform colleagues of which students are in the Hub, at which times and forhow long. To supervise the Hub area at lesson change, break and lunchtimes. To support the school’s Positive Discipline Policy. Organise and manage an appropriate learning environment area.

Support for the School

Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/professionals, in liaison with the teacher, to support the achievement and progress of pupils. Take the initiative as appropriate to develop appropriate multiagency approaches to supporting pupils. Organise and deliver out-of –school learning activities within guidelines established by the School. Contribute to the identification and implementation of appropriate out of school learning activities, which consolidate and extend the school activities.
