The Department of Languages, Information and Communications is seeking to recruit a Reader in Forensic Linguistics as part of the University's 2030 vision. The Department has 65 members of staff and over 1000 students across the range of our programmes. We have a strong international profile in both our research and teaching and are committed to producing world-leading research with impact and delivering high-quality, student-centred learning.

Linguistics is placed 6th in the UK in the Times 2024 University rankings and in REF 2021 we were ranked 8th for Research Power (UoA 27). We welcome applications to join our dynamic, innovative and passionate team.

About the role:
The role of Reader is an academic distinction conferred by the University and post holders are expected to develop their personal distinction in their particular field and make a sustained and innovative contribution to its advancement through scholarship and research. It is expected that post holders will be working towards a promotion to Professor typically within a period of four to five years.

We are seeking a Reader in Forensic Linguistics who is able to complement, develop and strengthen our existing expertise in this area. We would specifically like to appoint somebody with expertise in Forensic Discourse Analysis and/or Forensic Authorship Analysis. The ability to additionally work across adjacent areas such as Corpus Linguistics and/or Critical Discourse Analysis would be an advantage.

There will be opportunities for collaboration within the department, but there will be an expectation that the successful applicant will develop their own collaborative networks nationally and internationally. As a Reader, you will contribute to the research and/or knowledge exchange activities of the department by producing high-quality research outputs, supervising Doctoral students, and developing funding bids.
