Family Support Worker, Barnsley
Barker Ross is recruiting for 2 Family Support Workers, on behalf of our client in S70.
As a Family Support Worker, you will provide a service direct to children, young people and their carers reflecting their needs and practice/focus of the respective social work team. Provide such direct support, guidance, and interventions in consultation with Social Workers/Managers.
What you can expect:
- Pay 17.12 per hour.
- Hours: 7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week.
Job Role and Responsibilities: Level 1
- Provide support, advice and information to children, young people, and their families, including the provision of practical assistance.
- To assist social work qualified practitioners in the undertaking of their duties relating to all forms of social care interventions as appropriate.
- Assist in the promotion of good parenting and provide parents and carers with support and information in relation to parenting and the development of children and young people through a variety of means including group work and one to one session as required.
- To promote parents' ability to provide safe access to play, leisure and learning facilities, within and beyond the home.
- To provide verbal and written reports for use in the assessment and review process as part of work with children and their families, including the provision of reports/statements which may be required in the family court process, child protection or assessment processes.
- To supervise and record observations of contact between looked after children and their families.
- To assist in the assessment and access to appropriate interventions/services for children, young people, and their families.
- To maintain up to date recording of all actions taken and to maintain effective electronic case records and other administrative systems.
- To promote user involvement at all stages including their involvement in care planning and review.
- To work in conjunction with colleagues within CYPF and across partner agencies, including the third sector to provide support and advice to children, young people, and their families.
- To participate in meetings within the child in need and safeguarding processes and contribute where appropriate to team around the child meetings, acting as a lead practitioner where appropriate.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role as requested by management.
Job Role and Responsibilities:
Level 2 - As level 1 but to include.
- Promoting good parenting and provide parents and carers with support and information in relation to parenting and the development of children and young people through a variety of means including group work and one to one session as required.
- To lead supervisions and record observations of contact between looked after children and their families.
Requirements - Level 1:
- Right to work in the UK
- Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young Peoples Workforce Social Care Pathway (England) or equivalent.
- A minimum of 4 GCSE's A - C (including Maths and English) or equivalent
- Experience of working with colleagues across a range of agencies to support children's outcomes
- An awareness of early intervention approaches and parenting strategies
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries while relating appropriately to children, young people and adults.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public using a suitable level of fluency in spoken English, in line with the English Language requirement for public sector workers.
Requirements - Level 2:
- Right to work in the UK
- Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young Peoples Workforce Social Care Pathway (England) or equivalent
- Experience of direct work with children and families in a health, social care, education, community, or childcare setting
- Experience of visiting family homes in the community to deliver support packages.
- Experience of delivering support, advice or information to children, young people, and carers
- Knowledge of child development
- Knowledge of Common Assessment Framework, safeguarding processes/procedures and Integrated Children's System
- Understanding of what constitutes 'good enough parenting' and what the issues are which may affect parenting capacity.
- Knowledge of the resources and practice of colleagues working in a multi-agency context to safeguard children
- Ability to complete assessments and to work under pressure and manage stress.
- Able to recognise the signs of child abuse and work effectively with reference to safeguarding procedures and guidance
- Sound communication skills with an ability to express oneself clearly in written and verbal form, to children and young people, as well as adults
- Ability to work positively with colleagues from beyond your immediate team.
- Good organisational skills and ability to manage time effectively.
- Ability to work alone within family homes/community settings
