The Global Learning Academy (GLA) is British Airways learning function and our colleagues are at the heart of everything we do. We're passionate about providing the learning and development that our colleagues need to be their best, because every colleague matters.

The GLA is made up of diverse teams who design and deliver Pilot & Cabin Crew training, Engineering training as well as above-wing and below-wing training for our global airport teams. Additionally, the GLA designs and delivers training for Head Office specialists, Global Engagement Centres and delivers Apprenticeship and Graduate programmes.

The Skills Academy Manager role sits within the Learning Design team which includes Learning Design, Digital Design and The Skills Academy.

The role:

In this pivotal role you will be responsible for spearheading the design, implementation, and continuous enhancement of our Digital Skills Academy (DSA). As we evolve, your focus will expand to encompass a comprehensive range of skills development initiatives, transitioning the DSA into The Skills Academy. This strategic role is an opportunity to continually take learning at British Airways to the next level, as we strive to develop a learning culture.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and define the strategic direction of the Digital Skills Academy, focussed on increasing digital fluency and culture.
  • Lead the transition of the Digital Skills Academy to a Skills Academy (to include further skills) for the organisation.
  • Lead and motivate a team of direct reports through coaching and structured performance management.
  • Be data-driven through our Learning Experience Platform (LXP) and content platforms. Utilise data to drive engagement, highlight opportunities, and stay ahead of trends.
  • Align with IAG, OpCos and Leadership & Management team to ensure any synergies with content/narrative are not missed.
  • Create and deliver an engagement plan to all levels of the organisation, in multiple mediums (promotional videos, corporate comms, roadshows etc) to drive enthusiasm for change.
  • Accountable for the relationship management with external providers and suppliers.

What you'll bring to British Airways:

  • End to end L&D design experience including modern learning theories and methodologies.
  • A leader with the ability to make decisions and accept accountability and responsibility for them.
  • Commercial & Agile mindset - apply a business and customer focused approach, demonstrating the commitment to deliver results that create business value.
  • Ability to interpret data and insights and use this to make informed decisions & improvements.
  • Digital Working - understanding the digital environment, the role of technology and the impact it has as an enabler of learning.
  • Professional courage and influence - show professional and personal courage to speak up when it's the right thing to do, even if in the face of resistance or opposition.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Your experience:

  • Knowledge of the principles of learning and the success factors that are fundamental to the design and delivery of blended learning solutions.
  • Experience of managing third parties and suppliers in the delivery of projects, platforms & content.
  • Familiarity with the latest learning platforms & emerging L&D technologies.
  • Excellent stakeholder management.
