JOB PURPOSE

Lichfield District Council has an opening for a Business Advisor within their Finance team.  The team performs a key role in supporting the Council’s front-line services and delivering great services to the residents of Lichfield District.  

Working under the Senior Business Advisor, the Post will involve a high degree of contact with Budget Holders and Directors, focusing on supporting them in all aspects of their finances, including monitoring, forecasting, assisting in financial business cases, and advising on the financial procedure rules.  

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Monitoring of Revenue budgets, including the preparation of reports and analysis. Liaising with budget holders, leadership team, internal staff, and suppliers. Preparation of Revenue estimates. Provision of advice to budget holders within the designated area of responsibility. Production of Final Accounts. Liaison with External Audit. Assisting with the assessment of the implications of new accounting guidance and legislation on the Council. Deputise in the absence of the Senior Business Advisor.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Either AAT or part CCAB Qualified. Knowledge of local government accounting framework. Considerable experience in a local authority accounting environment. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of staff, and the ability to establish professional and constructive working relationships. Ability to develop financial procedures including budgetary controls and financial planning. Be a strong team player. Proactive and calm under pressure. Analysis and strong problem-solving ability. Contribute to the management and motivation of staff within the Finance Team.  Contribute to looking at new ways of working to create streamlined and efficient processes.
