Somerset TA UF United Kingdom EDF Energy Full time

HVAC Engineer

Are you experienced in HVAC system design, installation, or commissioning within the nuclear industry or a similarly regulated environment? Are you knowledgeable about Health & Safety legislation, relevant to HVAC engineering? Are you proactive in reporting and escalating relevant issues while working independently as an HVAC Engineer?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as our next HVAC Engineer here at Hinkley Point C

The Opportunity

As our next Mechanical Engineer (HVAC), you'll take on the pivotal role in assessing, answering responding modifications raised by site contractors, ensuring they align with the designer's justifications. You'll play an essential role in bridging the gap between construction contractors and designers, ensuring seamless collaboration. Within NNB's Technical Directorate, you'll thrive in a vibrant and inclusive workplace, working closely with the Construction Team on-site every day.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a salary from £55,000 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We're talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone's welcome. We're on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We'd like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We're a disability confident employer and we'll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That's why we support you to pursue a career that's unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you will be doing

In this crucial role, you'll offer support when an issue arises on site with construction and installation and be part of a team who takes action to address them promptly. This role involves answering and resolving queries for non-conformance, design changes, and exemption requests, which require categorisation based on their nuclear and environmental impact. You will critically assess the feasibility of challenging design decisions to ensure they align with project strategies, collaborating closely with the technical team to find effective solutions. Other roles and responsibilities in the role include:

  • Ensure compliance with Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulation requirements through thorough oversight.
  • Advocate for design decisions that align with the project's strategic objectives.
  • Coordinate with external organisations to provide necessary support.
  • Contribute to resolving and closing Open Points effectively.
  • Evaluate technical risks and implement mitigation strategies accordingly.
  • Foster strong relationships with EDF EPR Engineering (Responsible Designer) and EDF Nuclear Services
  • Report directly to an Engineering Lead on operational matters.

Who you are

Although a degree in a relevant subject matter would be advantageous, it is not essential. With this said, we are looking for you to hold the following skills and experiences to complete this role:

  • Hands-on experience in HVAC design, installation, and/or commissioning.
  • Demonstrated application of multi-disciplinary technical expertise within the nuclear industry.
  • Experience in the construction or installation industry with a strong commitment to Health & Safety regulations. While knowledge of CDM and Nuclear Site Licence Conditions is a plus, it's not a requirement.
  • Proficiency in influencing diverse stakeholders, particularly those within a site environment.
  • Ability to work autonomously, taking proactive measures to report and escalate pertinent issues.

Applications for this role close: Sunday 29th September
