Principal Bridge Engineer

We have an exciting vacancy for a Principal Bridge Engineer to join our team, working on a variety of challenging highway structures and rail projects for both public and private sector clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hands-On Engineering: Apply professional engineering knowledge and skills to guide and manage projects effectively.
  • Support and Mentorship: Provide technical and project management support to junior team members, fostering their growth and development.
  • Design Review: Review and check designs for accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Feasibility Studies and Design Calculations: Prepare feasibility studies and detailed design calculations, with proficiency in Eurocodes being essential.
  • Bridge Inspections and Assessments: Conduct bridge inspections and assessments, requiring knowledge of the DMRB.
  • Contract Documentation: Prepare contract documents and technical specifications.
  • Project Supervision: Supervise contractors to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Project Management: Manage projects from planning through execution, including client interactions.

Specific Objectives:

  • Deliver high-level technical services.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff.
  • Develop and retain specialist knowledge.
  • Report to the Bridges Director.
  • Manage and mentor graduates and junior staff.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Chartered Engineer status is essential.
  • Minimum of 10 years of practical design experience in a bridges/highway structures design consultancy office.

Qualities:

  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic.
  • Passionate about mentoring and supporting junior staff.
  • Capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Eager to take on increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Excellent client-facing skills and ability to build strong client relationships.
