Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom Newcastle University Full time

We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.

The role
The Network Manager position is pivotal in ensuring the smooth functioning of Newcastle University's computer network. Reporting to the Head of Infrastructure, the successful candidate will manage a team of network engineers, overseeing day-today operations of the network. We're at the beginning of a multimillion-pound investment to replace our wired and wireless network infrastructure across all sites. This role will be instrumental in support and transition into the operation of a new ‘state of the art' network. You will ensure support requirements are met and people, processes and procedures are in place to ensure continued operation of the University network.

The role will involve:

  • Managing all aspects of Newcastle University's networks services.
  • Leading and mentoring a team, ensuring priorities are agreed, resourced, and delivered.
  • Liaising with Third party suppliers.
  • Creating and managing a network roadmap.
  • Working closely with other NUIT departments such as Cyber Security, Platforms & Services and Datacentre Operations to ensure smooth delivery of services which depend on the network.
  • Overseeing NUIT's network budget, allocating resources and reporting on expenditure.

About you
We seek an IT professional with a broad understanding of IT services and technical environments. To succeed in this role, you should possess:

  • Strong people management skills and experience of managing a team of network engineers.
  • Previous experience managing large campus networks across multiple sites.
  • An ability to manage several competing priorities and deliver on time and within budget.
  • Previous experience delivering a large network replacement.

If this sounds like you, we invite you to apply by submitting a 2-page CV and a 1-page covering letter. Your application should outline examples where your knowledge, skills, and experience align with the job description.

The University values hybrid working. This approach is flexible, informal, tailored to each team, and founded on trust.

We are open to discussing relocation support for candidates applying from outside of the region.

If you would like to have a chat about this opportunity, contact Gary Atkinson, Head of Infrastructure, at gary.atkinson@newcastle.ac.uk.

£50,000 per annum.
