Oakham, United Kingdom Outcomes First Group Full time

How would you like to be paid for five days but only work four*?

Our colleagues' wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do at OFG, so we're always looking for new ways to improve everyone's work/life balance. We're taking part in a trial of the 4-Day Working Week, meaning that you could be working one day less a week (or equivalent).

If the trial is a success, we'll be rolling the 4DWW out across the Group - so there's never been a more exciting time to join

As part of our continued growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced Support Workers who will fulfil a complementary role to that of the teaching and learning team to support and promote the social, emotional, and educational curriculum of pupils and young people (aged 11-18) within our setting.

  • Oakham Shires, Oakham, Rutland LE15 6LB
  • £18,500.00 per annum
  • 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.00am to 3.30pm
  • Permanent; Term Time only

UK applicants only. This role does not offer sponsorship.

About the role

The Support Worker will work in partnership with school staff and families to enable our pupils and young people to succeed in their educational placement and gain life skills in line with their EHCP.

Key responsibilities would include:

  • To compliment the delivery of the school curriculum.
  • To provide pastoral support to students in order that they can successfully access their school placement on a day-to-day basis.
  • To support students to meet the annual targets of their EHCP.
  • To liaise with clinical, teaching and support staff to share strategies for support.
  • To participate in the development and/or review of all support documentation including risk assessments, individual learning plans and opportunity plans.
  • To ensure necessary record keeping is maintained and where required to assist in the preparation of routine reports.
  • Be physically fit and energetic.
  • To provide absence cover for the class teaching support as and when required.
  • Be resilient. This role is very rewarding but does not come without its challenges.
  • Be passionate about changing the lives of young people with Learning Disabilities and Autism.
  • Be able to demonstrate empathy and patience.

We are looking for staff who have a passion for working with pupils, have a compassionate, caring manner and a mature, non-judgemental approach to life. You will be a clear communicator and resilient. In return, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package, via a salary sacrifice scheme, company pension, life assurance and inclusion within a supportive team with great career and development opportunities for personal growth.

We are a setting that has a strong safeguarding culture, where pupils are listened to, respected and involved in as many decisions as possible, fully embracing the Ask, Accept, Develop Strategy. If you have a passion for working with pupils, have a compassionate, caring manner and a mature, non-judgemental approach to life, then Oakham Shires could be the next exciting step of your career.

You will be educated to GCSE grade C or above in Maths and English and ideally you will have experience of supporting autistic teenagers that have struggled throughout their school journey to achieve their academic and life goals; you will play a pivotal role in working with our pupils to meet their Education Health Care Plan outcomes empowering and equipping them with the tools they need to be happy, healthy and make their way in the world. Applicants must have a full, clean manual UK Driving Licence and be prepared to drive school vehicles as and when required.

About the school

Oakham Shires School is an Independent Special School for 11-18 year olds who are Autistic and have associated diagnosis and special education needs.
