We are seeking a Research Fellow to undertake qualitative research (e.g., desk-based, and semi-structured interviews) relating to an investigation of whether the Southwest of England’s Peninsula is experiencing a bias in UK Government funding allocation. Based on diagnostic assessment of the problems encountered, it seeks to highlight a series of policy recommendations that will improve the quality and likely success of future applications.

This work is being carried out as part of the Good Growth Entrepreneurial Futures project, funded through the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly (IoS) Good Growth Fund.  The Good Growth Entrepreneurial Futures project brings together Higher and Further Education in Cornwall to work with businesses to deliver an extensive programme of R&D led growth activities to drive productivity increases in the region. As a partnership, we will deliver a programme that builds on existing knowledge and facilities whilst also developing new assets and expertise. The programme will deliver across the whole entrepreneurial ecosystem from working with those business with high growth potential to understanding socioeconomic barriers preventing some of our more marginalised communities from engaging.

You will be based within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business and in the internationally renowned Plymouth Business School but working across the University with colleages located in Plymouth’s Medical School and the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics. Plymouth Business School provides an enterprising environment that drives sustainable prosperity and enables our students and partners to achieve their full potential. Plymouth Business School has a research active community producing high quality trans- and interdisciplinary research of local, national and international importance.

You are required to have a PhD in a relevant subject or an equivalent international qualification, or a commensurate level of experience/recognition/profile in the private or public sector. You will also be interested in a career in the Higher Education Sector, specifically in research, and thus need to possess excellent communication and team working skills.

This is a part-time position working 18.5 hours per week on a fixed-term basis until 31st March 2025 subject to funding confirmation.
