An exciting opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our hardworking and committed Neighbourhood Services Division. The successful candidate will have proven experience working as a technician and have a good understanding of modern vehicle technology and diagnostic procedures, experience with electric vehicles would also be an advantage, however training will be provided.

We are seeking a motivated person who can work to diagnose faults on chassis and body equipment for a range of vehicles quickly and accurately.

Responsible for: Servicing and repair of a fleet of small to large goods vehicles, to annual test standard and the maintenance of all items of grass cutting equipment and Highways Plant.

Principal Accountabilities

To liaise with colleagues in the decision-making process, working together as part of a team to achieve goals and improve and develop the service.

To identify development needs and opportunities for oneself improve and compliment service delivery and customer satisfaction.

To carry out inspections, repair all vehicles and items of plant to a high standard including vehicles to HGV test standard.

Job Description

To carry out unsocial hours/bank holiday working as required by approved rotas and working practices.

To be available as a designated HGV Driver for standby and call outs, Winter maintenance, Summer Standby, Bank Holiday Working and to also be available for out of hours emergencies, flooding etc.

To carry out MOT testing.

Ensure all paperwork is completed in line with departments procedures and Quality Standards.

To work with minimum supervision.

To undertake any training relevant to the role.

Keep the workshop clean and orderly, and tools are securely locked up when not in use.

Responsible for the vehicles and plant they are repairing, and for the security of vehicles when parking them in the yard when completed.

Fitters must be able to give a reasonable estimated downtime of vehicles undergoing repairs.

To adhere to the principles of the Corporate Equality Policy and ensure commitment to anti-discriminatory practice.

To maintain a level of responsibility and duty of care towards own health and safety and that of colleagues to comply with the relevant sections of the Authority’s policy statement on Health, Safety and Welfare at Work and to be aware of any risks and dangers and appropriate reporting procedures. All necessary PPE must be worn at all times during the working day.

To ensure own conduct is in accordance with the Councils Code of Conduct for employees and ensure that all relevant Council procedures and regulations are followed at all times.
