Bury St Edmunds, United Kingdom The National Trust Full time
Assistant Building Surveyor - Bury St Edmunds

Summary

We’re looking for an Assistant Building Surveyor to join us in an exciting opportunity to gain Building Surveying experience across our property portfolios in the East of England whilst working towards your RICS APC.

Reporting to a Senior Building Surveyor, you’ll be operating within a team of experienced specialists, providing support on a wide variety of building repair and conservation projects in unique settings.

What it's like to work here

You’ll be part of the Trust’s internal consultancy: a flexible resource of specialist skills and expertise. As one of a multidisciplinary team of experts, including building surveyors, curators, fundraisers and project managers, you’ll be working with others to help make things happen. Your contractual place of work will be the nearest National Trust office to your home.

Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40–60% of your working week.

What you'll be doing

This is a developmental role, during which you’ll build your knowledge, skills and experience as you work towards becoming a Chartered Building Surveyor.

You’ll support Building Surveyors, helping develop and deliver high-quality, successful schemes at properties across Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Essex and Bedfordshire. You’ll assist with successful building schemes by proactively inputting and advising where required.

You’ll be involved in planning and delivering a programme of building repairs and improvements, supporting other Building Surveyors working on a project programme or working on your own initiative.

Who we're looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you’re:

  • qualified with a Bachelors degree or equivalent qualification, accredited by RICS
  • enrolled on the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence – Building Surveying pathway
  • a self-starter with an ambition to succeed in a career in building surveying
  • motivated to develop knowledge and expertise of historic building conservation, maintenance and repair and of relevant legislative requirements
  • able to demonstrate skills in the production of technical information and data handling
  • an effective communicator, able to build good working relationships
  • good at listening, building trust and giving a high-quality service to colleagues
  • someone with an eye for detail, good organisational skills and able to work at pace and keep to time

    The package

The National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.
