About the role

Under the direction of Professor David Mattingly, you will manage the archive of the British Institute for Libyan and North African Studies (BILNAS), catalogue collections, manage the external digitisation of archive material, assist with student placement projects and run a remote engagement project for researchers based in Libya. 

The British Institute for Libyan & Northern African Studies was founded (as the Society for Libyan Studies) in 1969. Its aims are to encourage and co-ordinate scholarship on Libya and Northern Africa and to foster relations between scholars in the region and those working outside the region. The archive mainly comprises records generated by British-led archaeological excavations in Libya from 1910 – early 2000s. The archive is housed within the Centre for Endangered Archaeology and Heritage (School of Archaeology and Ancient History) at the University of Leicester.

About you

With previous relevant experience, alongside knowledge and understanding of the needs of archive users, you will hold a postgraduate qualification in Archival Management or equivalent relevant experience. We are looking for someone who can work on their own initiative, has excellent communication and organisational skills. You will be able to apply international and national cataloguing and archival description standards, alongside applying your practical knowledge of copyright, Data Protection / GDPR and the Freedom of Information act.
