Loughborough, United Kingdom Loughborough University Full time

Full-time: 3 years

Part-time: 6 years

Start date: October 2024

Application deadline: 2 June 2024

Subject area(s): Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences

Project details

The School is committed to undertaking initiatives which support under-represented groups to pursue educational and research opportunities across our disciplines. Analysis has shown that small numbers of UK racialised ethnic minority students are undertaking post graduate research degrees within the School.

To address this structural inequality, School-funded studentships have been ring-fenced for UK applicants who identify as being from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic background. This is part of our wider work to support underrepresented groups within our disciplines.

Applications are invited for fully funded studentships. The School’s research activity is organised within three themes - Lifestyle for Health & Wellbeing, Sport, Business & Society and Sport Performance. Applicants will be required to look at the research themes and submit a statement (1 paragraph) with a topic idea.

Supervisors

A potential primary supervisor will be identified based on the research topic discussed during the interview stage. Questions can be directed to our Director of Doctoral Programmes, Professor Stacy Clemes.

Entry requirements

Our entry requirements are listed using standard UK undergraduate degree classifications i.e. first-class honours, upper second-class honours and lower second-class honours. To learn the equivalent for your country, please choose it from the drop-down below.

Entry requirements for United Kingdom

Applicants should have achieved at least a 2:1 in their undergraduate degree in a relevant subject. A master’s degree in a relevant subject will be an advantage.

English language requirements

Applicants must meet the minimum English language requirements. Further details are available on the International website.

Fees and funding Tuition fees for 2024-25 entry UK fee

Fully funded full-time degree per annum

International fee

Not applicable full-time degree per annum

2024-25 tuition fees are applicable to projects starting in October 2024, January 2025, April 2025 and July 2025.

Tuition fees cover the cost of your teaching, assessment and operating University facilities such as the library, IT equipment and other support services. University fees and charges can be paid in advance and there are several methods of payment, including online payments and payment by instalment. Fees are reviewed annually and are likely to increase to take into account inflationary pressures.

The studentship is for 3 years full time / 6 years part-time and provides a tax-free stipend of £18,622 per annum full time, £9,311 part-time (23/24 rate, 24/25 rate TBC) for the duration of the studentship plus tuition fees at the UK rate. Due to funding restrictions, the studentship is only open to UK students who identify as being from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic background.
