About us

Leeds General Infirmary has been acting as the Major Trauma Centre for West and North Yorkshire since April 2013. This has led to major expansion in available trauma infrastructure including a new major trauma ward and additional trauma / reconstruction operating capacity. Our department provides Trauma and Elective Orthopaedic services to Leeds residents and beyond.

All local trauma patients are admitted to the Leeds General Infirmary. The Trauma referral base is from the whole of the Yorkshire Region, a population of approximately 3.9 million. With the advent of trauma networks in England, all severe and multiple trauma is transferred to the major trauma centre in Leeds with bypass procedures in place. TARN data has shown us to be consistently within the top 3 busiest and most effective major trauma centres in the country.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals is committed to our process of redeploying 'at risk' members of our existing workforce to new roles.
