In a nutshell

The Provisioning & Forecasting Team are responsible for ensuring the balance sheet provision for Bad Debts is adequate and in line with the relevant accounting standard, production of loss forecasting to support the bank's Financial Planning and Stress Testing processes, and production of IFRS9 data for regulatory reporting. This is undertaken across Loans, Cards, and AFS Store Cards / MPP.

This role is responsible for production of the monthly impairment numbers, maintaining, developing and enhancing the IFRS9 BAU Provisioning models and the associated processes, controls and management / regulatory / statutory reporting.

What you need to do
  • Own the Provisioning Models, ensure they are in line with both business requirements and IFRS9 accounting standards.
  • Responsible for producing the monthly impairment numbers, developing, maintaining and enhancing the internal suite of Provisions Reporting so that it provides insightful key driver analysis both in terms of changes in actual performance and variances to Budget.
  • Understanding the needs of key stakeholders in the Modelling, Portfolio, Commercial and Finance teams to ensure that the models meet the needs of the business.
  • Influence senior management in the Credit risk team in relation to the enhancements to the models and their benefit to the business.
  • Ensure the Provisioning Models are EUC Policy Standard compliant and have robust and auditable controls in place.
  • Manage the teams 'Change Control Process' when undertaking change activity on the IFRS9 Provisioning. This will involve making changes to SAS code, designing the test approach and testing changes have been updated correctly.
  • Lead the identification and delivery of opportunities to improve the sophistication and effectiveness of the provisioning methodologies, processes and controls. This will include development of proposals and presentation at the appropriate forums.
  • Provide analytical support and insight to understand key drivers of provisioning and to support the downstream impacts of IFRS9 on the business.
  • Provide SAS support to the Provisioning and Forecasting Team as well as the broader Credit Risk Team through mentoring and training as required.
  • Management and development of Senior Analysts.
    What you need to know and show
    • Educated to degree level (preferably in an economic or statistical related discipline).
    • Experience in the financial services industry with 5 years' experience in risk management, credit risk management information or customer analysis.
    • Strong SAS / Excel / SQL skills and comfortable using more advanced SAS data steps (SAS certification is not essential but would be advantageous).
    • Experience in the development or monitoring of Credit Risk Models would be beneficial.
    • Experience in testing / implementation of changes to SAS code using Formal Change Processes.
    • Proven track record of working on own initiative, with a determination to introduce fresh thinking to the role and to the wider risk team.
    • Well organised and able to prioritise workload in line with tight reporting deadlines.
    • Ability to interpret management information providing insight on trends.
    • An excellent communicator, with well-developed verbal communication skills and report writing skills.
    • An ability to interact at senior levels within the organisation and able to translate complex / technical issues to meet the audience's competency level.
    • Highly numerate, with excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
    • Customer focused and driven by achieving good outcomes.
    • Strong relationship management skills and an excellent team player with ability to work closely with others, maintaining excellent relationships across business areas and suppliers.
      What decisions I can make including budget
      • There is no budgetary responsibilities.
        Directly or indirectly manages
        • 2 - 5 Senior Credit Risk Analysts (C3 / C4 / C5), plus contractors on an ad hoc basis.
          Support we will provide
          • Training given in SAS and / or SQL programming which will include SAS certification where relevant.
          • Training via external courses / seminars will also be given.
          • Access to personal development tools e.g. Bitesize talks, online self-development tools, internal mentoring etc.
