Todmorden, United Kingdom Todmorden High School Full time

Role title: Teacher of Ethics, Philosophy and Religion

Contract type: Permanent / Full Time / Part Time

We are open to applications with a range of flexible working arrangements. We are ideally looking for someone between 0.6 and full time.

Grade: MPS/UPS

Hours: 32.5 hpw

Start Date: September 2024

Work Pattern: Monday to Friday in accordance with the School Teacher Pay and Conditions Document

At Todmorden High, RE is known as EPR (Ethics, Philosophy and Religion). We believe this is reflective of the multidisciplinary nature of RE. Todmorden High EPR aims to build students’ substantive, disciplinary, and personal knowledge, with the end goal of achieving excellent religious literacy. We believe that this is critical for students to be fully prepared for additional study and the world of work in a multi-faith, multi-cultural society.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a passionate teacher of EPR to work as part of an excellent team with outstanding results. The department at Todmorden High boasts strong outcomes, high options numbers, and an engaging, dynamic curriculum. The EPR program includes multiple trips, visitors, and a residential trip to support the inclusion of lived experience in religion. The subject is highly valued by students and leadership, with students being afforded the proper time allocation for study. Training and subject knowledge development are greatly championed at the school, with the department having access to the West Yorkshire EPR Network as well as access to Strictly RE. The existing EPR team has been heavily involved in the development of the new locally agreed syllabus and has recently been awarded a SACRE Merit and an REQM Gold accreditation.

The department lead is the coordinator for the Leeds/Calderdale/Kirklees EPR network and is an advisor for SACRE, meaning you will receive excellent support and guidance as you develop and build your Religious Education practice. At the last Ofsted inspection, the department was part of a deep dive. Following the process, the report detailed that EPR was a real strength of the school. This was later confirmed through participation in the Ofsted research review. With the new worldviews approach to EPR along with the direction of the new syllabus, the department will be working to adapt the curriculum.

While this job is not subject to a TLR, there are opportunities within the school every year for teaching and learning colleagues to take on additional responsibilities with attached TLRs. Additionally, further opportunities within the department and through the department may become available in the future.
