This role is hybrid, with an expectation of working from our Manchester head office roughly once per week.

 

The role:

 

As Head of SME Credit Risk, you will lead a proactive, professional and effective SME Credit Risk Management function that oversees the entire credit lifecycle of all the Bankâs SME credit agreements, and ensure alignment to the Bankâs credit risk appetite.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Lead the development of specific strategies in respect of SME Bank Credit decisions, limit setting, pricing and new business initiatives which align to agreed policy; facilitating the Bankâs business objectives and meeting customer needs.
  • SME arrears management, which align to agreed policy and facilitate the Bankâs business objectives.
  • Stakeholder engagement and reporting up to and including Board level on SME Credit Risk strategy, policy and processes.
  • As a member of the Senior Risk Leadership team contribute to the development and implementation of the strategic plan, ensuring that everyone within the SME Credit Risk Function understands and is focused on achieving.
  • Simplify complex processes and practices at a Bank wide level, in order to improve the customer experience and value to the customer.
  • Lead, motivate and develop the team, role modelling and insisting on high standards of people management and communication to ensure an effective working environment, employee commitment and consistently high performance.
  • Lead and role model Credit Risks culture across the Bank, to ensure the Risk Management frameworks are embedded in all aspects of the Bankâs activities.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

 

  • Comprehensive expertise in Credit Risk Management across full range of SME banking products/services.
  • Experience of transactional credit activity, including exercising a delegated authority.
  • Thorough knowledge of credit management systems, models, strategies and policies.
  • Experience of larger lending transactions including the preparation, presentation, and sanctioning of such proposals.
  • Well versed knowledge in financial services industry, including intermediary lending.
  • Extensive knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements/developments as they affect SME Credit Risk management.
  • Ability and resilience to deliver change at pace within a turnaround environment.
  • Experience of leading, coaching and developing expert teams.
  • Skilled communicator able to relate to and build trust with colleagues at all levels across the Bank up to and including Board level.
