City of London Academy Highbury Grove has a well-established music programme for all students in Key Stage 3 and currently offers both GCSE and A level courses. Highbury Grove is a MiSST (Music in Secondary School's Trust) school and therefore provides all students in Key Stage 3 with an orchestral instrument as part of its core curriculum offer. This is in addition to providing instrumental and vocal lessons to a large number of students in all year groups. We have two ICT suites with iMacs installed with Sibelius and Logic, in addition to three large music classrooms, a recording studio, concert hall and numerous practice rooms. We have a varied extra-curricular offer comprising orchestras, a choir, school of rock, chamber ensembles and many more. Our performance calendar ensures students have access to a variety of formal and informal performing opportunities.


The City of London Academy Highbury Grove is looking for an exceptional Teacher of Music 2iC to join our highly skilled, successful and supportive Music Department as second in charge within the department. The post offers opportunities to teach at all levels and to engage with an active and vibrant enrichment programme comprising a number of different musical ensembles and performance opportunities. As the second in charge, you will take responsibility for a Key Stage and assist our Curriculum Leader – Music in managing the department. You will need strong organisational and interpersonal skills that promote high quality teaching.


We are supported by the Music in Secondary Schools Trust (MiSST); which helps to afford every student in Years 7-9 the opportunity to learn an orchestral instrument in a classroom setting. In addition to this a large number of students have individual instrumental lessons and are a part of our varied performance calendar. We have over 700 instruments which are loaned out to students.
