Working Pattern:  Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

Degree Disciplines: Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Renewables, or Computer Science.

What is the Role?

Electrical engineering graduates joining SSEN Transmission will be at the forefront of building a better world of energy for future generations. Graduates will follow a specialist pathway, working with specialists in their field to gain a depth of knowledge and exposure to equip them for a substantive post at SSEN Transmission.

We have various commercial positions based across Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness. These positions range across our Investment Planning, Control Centre, and Strategic Energy Planning teams.

About our Teams

Investment Planning: A team of power system and investment engineers and industry experts who are responsible for growth-related capital investment throughout the lifecycle of a project from initial development through to energisation, undertaking power system analysis to specify system requirements and inform detailed engineering designs. They are the technical stakeholder interface for customers looking to connect to our transmission network and undertake power system analysis against industry codes and standards to inform customers connection offers. The team are also the custodians of the network models across SSEN Transmission, and are responsible for building, maintaining and quality assuring the network models as well as the software packages used for the system studies.

The team are seeking graduates with degrees in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Renewables or Computer Science, and are based in Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness.

Control Centre: The heart of SSEN Transmission’s daily operations for the overall secure transmission of electrical energy and for the safety of SSE field engineers working on-site. The team are constantly balancing various key factors including the availability of electrical components found at over 150 substations, planned outages for repairs and maintenance, response to disasters and faults, accurate data interpretation and more. Being part of the Transmission Control Centre allows individuals to make a key difference in the operations of the entire electrical network as it continues to grow and become key to SSE and the wider UKs net-zero targets.

The team are seeking graduates with degrees in Electrical Engineering, and are based in Perth.

Strategic Energy Planning: Responsible for the strategic system planning of the transmission network in the north of Scotland in compliance with the national electricity planning standards, and in order to ensure security and quality of electricity supply to consumers. The team plays a critical role in determining the network requirements and network projects to facilitate the connection of renewable generation and other low carbon technologies to the electricity grid, thereby enabling the transition to net zero.

The team are seeking graduates with degrees in Electrical or Power Engineering, and are based at our Glasgow or Perth office.

What do I need to join?

You will have a minimum of a 2:2 in the desired degree disciplines listed above.

As the organisations grows and becomes more international, our graduates need to be highly flexible in order to embrace the changes and keep up with the fast-paced evolution of the business. Our graduates are agile in their thinking and seek to address knowledge gaps. You should be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges.
