The Faculty of Education is looking to appoint a  full time fixed term Senior Teaching Associate from the 2 September 2024 for one year with a solid background in the sociology of education with a focus on critical feminist, race, and decolonial thought. The postholder will be expected to contribute to a range of duties on two core Faculty programmes:  MPhil 'Knowledge Power and Politics' (KPP) and the BA Education (Tripos) for the 2024-25 academic year.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an early career researcher or academic to join a leading national and international centre engaged in teaching and educational research, and to gain valuable experience of teaching and programme management at both the postgraduate and undergraduate level. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of colleagues in the Faculty broadly specialising in the sociology of education addressing issues of knowledge, power, and politics from critical feminist, race, and decolonial perspectives.

The Senior Teaching Associate will contribute to all aspects of the Faculty's teaching and learning at both the undergraduate and graduate level, including teaching and supervision of Master students' research for the academic year 2024/25.The postholder  will deliver lectures on the first-year paper in Education and Social Justice and on several other undergraduate and graduate courses in sociology of education with focus on power and social inequalities (e.g. intersectionality, decoloniality), develop course content and material in response to changes in the programme or student feedback. They will:

  • Plan and coordinate one undergraduate course to ensure smooth operation. The task comprises of recruiting supervisors, liaising with the course specific teaching team over the structure and content if programmes, attending teaching team meetings, as well as collaborating with the Tripos Leadership Team.
  • Assume the role of examiner for several undergraduates Mark and assess coursework and theses on the MPhil KPP programme and undergraduate Tripos, including providing formative feedback
  • Supervision of  Master students and lecturing on the MPhil programme 'Knowledge Power and Politics' (KPP), as well as lecturing on the "Research Methods Strand" taken by all Masters students.

You will need:

  • Completed (or is near to completing) a PhD in Sociology, Education or other related area in the Social Sciences.
  • Proven track record of supervising and teaching graduate or undergraduate students.
  • Experience of  teaching on a broad range of topics in the field of sociology of education related to power, coloniality, white supremacy, global faciality, intersectionality, and the political economy of education.
  • A comparative and/or transnational perspective would be advantageous.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and professionally as part of an effective team is essential, alongside excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with developing course content at the graduate and/or undergraduate level, as well as managing courses at the undergraduate level (including examination) will be beneficial.

The post is available from September 2024 . It is is fixed-term for one year.
