The Natural Resources Institute (NRI) (www.nri.org) is an internationally renowned multi-disciplinary centre of the University of Greenwich that undertakes research, consultancy, and training to support sustainable development and food security worldwide.

An opportunity has arisen for a Laboratory Coordinator to join the Chemical Ecology and Plant Biochemistry Group. The Group develops nature-based solutions for managing pests and improving pollination services through research on chemicals used by animals and plants to mediate interactions with each other and their surroundings.

The post-holder’s primary responsibility will be to coordinate and maintain the chemical analysis and synthesis laboratories of the Group. This will include maintenance of HPLC, GC-FID and GC-MS equipment and associated software and networks, an inventory of chemical standards, and our library of synthesised chemicals. The post-holder will be responsible for health and safety in the laboratory, including safe storage of chemicals and the administration of data from our research.

The post-holder will also be expected to contribute to research and consultancy projects, carrying out analyses by GC-FID, GC-MS, HPLC and LC-MS, assisting in isolation of natural products and assisting in developing and producing controlled-release formulations, for example. They will be expected to work with scientists and students in NRI and the wider University and to contribute to liaising with collaborators and commercial clients.

Candidates will most likely have a BSc or higher degree in chemistry or a related subject, and experience in working in a chemistry laboratory within an academic or commercial research environment.
