Leeds, United Kingdom University of Leeds Full time

This role will be based at Roemex Limited, Portlethen, Aberdeenshire, AB12 4YD. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

Do you have an interest in corrosion science and a strong background in synthetic chemistry at PhD level? Are you a multi-talented candidate familiar with chemical synthesis, corrosion inhibitor development and/or surfactant science?

Are you enthused by using your knowledge of chemistry and/or corrosion science to address a challenging problem in a commercial setting?  If so, would you like to join a progressive company to create new, sustainable, polymer-based corrosion inhibitor formulations for high temperature geothermal applications?

The University of Leeds has an excellent opportunity for you to ‘fast track’ your career in industry by leading a strategically important project to a successful conclusion. Through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), you will be working in partnership with Roemex Limited and the Faculty of Engineering & Physical Sciences at the University of Leeds, one of the UK’s leading research intensive universities.

Roemex Limited, based in Portlethen (near Aberdeen), manufactures and distributes Speciality Chemicals used by the global energy sector. Roemex have recently extended focus to the provision of corrosion inhibitors for high temperature geothermal infrastructure. To be competitive in this sector, Roemex wish to further their knowledge and abilities to synthesise and validate novel inhibitor chemistries at laboratory scale, thereby ensuring their products perform as expected in the field. This will meet Roemex’s goal to achieve greener and more sustainable chemistries via innovation in chemical synthesis/formulation optimisation in the high enthalpy geothermal market.

You will be integrated into Roemex’s R&D team in Aberdeen as part of a dynamic team of chemists and engineers to develop novel corrosion inhibitor formulations for high temperature geothermal applications, achieved through the provision and development of new synthesis, testing and modelling techniques to facilitate the in-house optimisation of chemical products.

Roemex’s dedicated R&D centre provides a unique environment to undertake extensive chemical research, testing and development across three high specification laboratories and will afford you access to excellent facilities throughout the duration of your project. These will be supplemented when necessary during the project by utilising the "state of the art" facilities available in Leeds.
