About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to join the Computer Science department.

As a Research Fellow, you will contribute to the development and implementation of cutting-edge research and innovation addressing the great challenges of real-world application of robotics and autonomous systems that one would like to answer. This position can be a valuable experience for learning more about academia, gaining advanced skills (e.g., computer vision, AI, deep learning, team working, etc.) and can be a valuable way to expand one’s research experience to become more competitive on the academic and industrial research job market.

  • Engage positively in research activity in the broad area of computer vision, deep learning, neural networks, graph theory, artificial intelligence under the direction of the project lead/principal investigator.
  • Complete high-quality research in Computer Vision, AI and associated subject areas, leading on accurate assessment of soldiers’ injuries in battlefield using videos/images (e.g., thermal and RGB) from drones and attention-driven multimodal data fusion elements of the project as well as system integration and testing/validation/verification, and managing the work of others as required.
  • Publish research outputs in leading peer-reviewed journals (e.g., IEEE TPAMI TIP, IJCV, CVIV, etc.) and top-tier conferences (e.g., CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurlPS, AAAI, ICML, etc.) with an international audience, as lead author where appropriate.

About you

  • PhD in the broad area of Computer Science/Engineering and/or Applied Mathematics
  • Detailed and highly specialised knowledge and understanding of Computer Vision, Deep Learning, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
  • Previous experience of software and testing involving Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Computational Intelligence and Deep learning
  • Innovative, ambitious, self-motivated, and willingness to work as a team player within an interdisciplinary setup
  • Excited by the research and development we do and wish to be part of it
  • A self-starter to take initiatives beyond the project-related activities

You will be able to engage in high-quality personal research and possession of the skills of a fully trained researcher and whilst being able to proactively assess, plan and progress work activities, projects and changes within own work area using initiative and judgement and further deal with sensitive situations, handle confidential business data and maintain professionalism.
