Who You Are

Substantial experience with motor vehicle technology on cars, light goods vehicles, municipal vehicles, and parks equipment.
Practical experience in general hydraulic, welding, and electrical repairs.
Diagnostic skills related to repair and maintenance of various vehicle types.
Flexible approach to work, able to adapt to changing environments and shift patterns.
Ability to work under/on vehicles at varying heights, and in confined spaces, including accessing inspection pits via ladders.
Experience with computer systems for recording work and checking vehicle history.
Team player with a strong commitment to workplace safety.
Desirable: Qualified VOSA MOT tester for class 4 and 5.
Knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations.
Evidence of continuous professional development.
City and Guilds part 1, 2, and 3 in motor vehicle maintenance or equivalent qualification.
LGV class C driving licence.



What the Job Involves

Maintaining, servicing, and repairing all types of vehicles, plant, and equipment as part of the Council’s programmed servicing schedule.
Conducting risk assessments, safe work systems, and regular safety inspections on all vehicles and plant.
Liaising with external suppliers for goods and services to ensure best value.
Managing the stores area to maintain stock levels and ensure necessary service/repair items are available.
Providing roadside assistance and arranging vehicle/plant recovery when necessary.
Diagnosing faults and specifying necessary work on job cards for contractors or in-house workshops.
Undertaking general fleet electrical work, welding, fabrication, and minor repairs.
Inspecting and testing vehicles returned from contractors to ensure work is completed to a safe and satisfactory standard.
Conducting statutory testing and issuing appropriate certificates for light goods vehicles and cars, including those from the public.
Ensuring workplace cleanliness and assisting in maintaining general workshop tidiness.
Inspecting new vehicles, hired vehicles, and plant added to the Council's fleet list, and performing initial data entry.
Conducting MOT testing using VOSA’s computerised system following regulations and standards.
Advising on the condition of and inspecting all MOT and workshop equipment before use.
Working in accordance with the shift system as required, following prior notice and consultation.
